In 2013, for instance, Blizzard's Mike Morhaime said an online connection was "critical to the long-term integrity of the game experience" for Diablo III and its controversial (and later removed) real-money auction house. ![]() While Bethesda has not responded to a request for comment on the decision, game publishers often cite piracy or cheating concerns as reasons to require players to connect to the Internet for solo play. Games that require a persistent online connection for solo play are rarer, though significant exceptions do exist. Many modern single-player games require an online check-in (or even a text message confirmation) the first time they're launched, and some require periodic online anti-piracy checks. That's according to an FAQ posted by Bethesda last week, which also confirms that players will need an active account to play the game. ![]() ![]() Hopefully something interesting rises from the grave next week.Microsoft / Bethesda reader comments 184 withīethesda's upcoming supernatural shooter Redfall will require "a persistent online connection," even for the single-player experience. I have no problem with Arkane branching out from their typical oevre, but Redfall hasn't done much to impress me in its trailers and footage so far. I'm not sure if I want to play Redfall at all. I'm not sure I want to play an open world multiplayer first-person shooter on the Steam Deck, but it's nice that developers are supporting it. Continuing Arkane’s legacy of carefully crafted worlds and immersive sims, Redfall brings the studio’s signature gameplay to this story-driven action shooter. This means that you can not play Redfall offline. What I hoped for was a multiplayer game injected with Arkanes single-player prowess, with a touch of viscera, a hint of blood, and lots and lots of teeth. If you visit Redfall's Steam page you'll find the Steam Deck "Verified" status mentioned in the sidebar, denoting that Redfall is fully playable on Valve's handheld PC. Redfall is an open-world, single player and co-op FPS from Arkane Austin, the award-winning team behind Prey and Dishonored. Redfall can be enjoyed in single-player but the game will still require a connection to play. Redfall is not the game I expected it to be. You'll also find an accessibility guide, which lists the options Redfall gives players to tweak the experience, including screen narration, font scaling and much more. You'll find additional "ultra spec" requirements in the full announcement. It's also worth noting that these's no indication of how the game is expected to run at each of these specs - whether 30fps, 60fps, or anything else. Other recent games, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, listed an HDD as minimum spec and only recommended an SSD. Arkanes upcoming vampire shooter Redfall puts a lot of emphasis on co-op multiplayer, but it also supports solo play: The Steam page describes it as 'an open-world, single player and co-op FPS. ![]() Those look pretty reasonable to my eye, although it's interesting that the minimum spec requires a 100GB SSD. GPU: AMD 5700 / NVIDIA RTX 2080 / Intel ARC / 8 GB VRAM.CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K 3.60GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X.GPU: AMD RX 580 / NVIDIA GTX 1070 / 6 GB VRAM.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Redfall developer Arkane is 'working actively' to remove the games always-online requirement when playing strictly in single-player mode.
